Release 6.6!

The release of Adlib 6.6 is here! Customers with a maintenance contract can download this new version immediately. In 6.6, a great deal of new functionality has been added, amongst which:

• a plugin for MS Office, allowing you to search your database from within Word, for example, and directly insert data into the opened document;
• a tool for debugging ADAPL programs, which makes programming in this language much more comfortable;
• the implementation option of an HTML field for laid out text, with which you can do everything you couldn't do with an RTF field, like web display and printing;
• a web browser box, to be built in, in which you can display the current record in a nice layout by means of an XSLT stylesheet, as a preview of the web display;
• a way to set up Adloan Circulation for self-service by borrowers, while the possibility to make reservations or to return copies can be switched off;
• the possibility to display screens and fields conditionally, so that a screen or field will only become visible if some condition set by you has been satisfied.

Further, some new ADAPL functions have been added (for example to select language specific data) and presentation formats for numerical fields have been implemented, as are linked fields with a drop-down list, the possibility to log the creation and modification date per field or to retrieve old record data. From now on you can lock field contents; a special role for administrators has been added and you can start using a role as record owner. Also, you can repair unilingual data in multilingual fields, show the upward hierarchy of a term in a single field and add new records via the hierarchy browser. In conclusion: a lot a reasons to upgrade to 6.6. Read the release notes for all information about this new functionality. Do take into account the limited backwards compatibility of 6.6: again, see the release notes for more information. Further you need the most recent version of Adlib Designer to be able to set up much of the new functionality: you can download that version from this site if your license entitles you to it. (Adlib Basis users cannot download and install Designer.)
